Flex Chronicles - Mastering Your Posing: Tips For Males & Females

Hey there,

Back with another section for the Flex Chronicles community!

Today I bring you more insights and tips to elevate your posing game. In this edition, we’ll delve deeper into the art of posing for both male and female bodybuilders. So let’s dive in!

Posing is hugely underrated in terms of the benefits it can give you. I put a post out on my instagram yesterday about a friend who doesn't want to step on stage but wants the benefits of posing to enhance his training and confidence levels. However it doesn't just stop there. Ill break down some key points you can all take away and implement into your own training.

Understanding Symmetry: Symmetry is key to a balanced and aesthetically pleasing pose. For male bodybuilders, focus on evenly showcasing both sides of your physique. Practice poses that highlight your shoulders, arms, and chest in proportion. Female bodybuilders should emphasise curves and lines, maintaining balance between upper and lower body development.

Posing Transitions: Smooth transitions between poses can make a world of difference on stage. Practice transitioning from one pose to another seamlessly, maintaining poise and grace throughout. Pay attention to your foot placement and body positioning to ensure fluidity in your transitions. Honestly it seems like a minor detail but if you flow from one pose to another it looks phenomenal on stage.

Expression and Confidence: Posing isn’t just about displaying your physique; it’s about conveying confidence and charisma. Practice maintaining a strong, confident expression that complements your physique. Smile naturally and engage with the audience to establish a connection on stage. Which is something I am a big advocate of, I look feeding off the crowds energy and they also love it if you interact with them.

Emphasising Your Best Features: Identify your strongest muscle groups and features, and emphasise them in your poses. For men, this might mean showcasing powerful shoulders or a defined V-taper. For women, accentuate curves and sculpted lines that highlight your hard work and dedication. For me it was always about my legs last year. However I am looking for my entire posterior chain to be a talking point.

Practice Makes Permanent - so make it good: Like any skill, posing requires consistent practice. Set aside dedicated time each day to work on your poses in front of a mirror. Experiment with different angles and poses to discover what works best for your body type. I would recommend filming your posing routines which leads me to the next sub heading.

Seek Feedback: Don’t hesitate to seek feedback from peers, coaches, or experienced competitors. Constructive criticism can be invaluable in refining your posing technique and presentation.

Confidence Boosting Exercises: Incorporate exercises that enhance posture, flexibility, and overall body awareness. Yoga, Pilates, and specific stretching routines can improve your posing abilities and help prevent injuries.

Visualisation Techniques: Use visualisation techniques to mentally prepare for posing routines. Picture yourself on stage, exuding confidence and owning every pose with grace and poise. You should do this when you'

re in the bath/shower. It is a fantastic time to just be in the moment with your thoughts.

Remember, posing is an art form that evolves with practice and dedication. Stay tuned for more tips, tutorials, and inspiration in the next edition of Flex Chronicles.

Keep flexing and embodying strength and grace!

Yours in posing perfection,

Jonn
